RailsConf Europe 2008 session on Rails software metrics
Friday, May 23, 2008
From 2 til 4 September RailsConf Europe 2008 takes place in Berlin. Organized by O’Reilly Media this conference is considered the European congres on Ruby on Rails. On this conference, attended by all big names from the Rails world, Nedforce COO Roderick van Domburg will give a presentation on how Rails software metrics can be used to measure quality.
Abstract:
"Line coverage, branch coverage, path coverage, cyclomatic complexity, code coupling, and code cohesion: they may sound as abstract terms, but don’t let that get you! There are a good many gems out there that can help you to measure these attributes of your Ruby on Rails application. We’ll teach you which and how.
Next up is interpretation of these quality measures. What are good scores and what are bad scores? Which attribute should I focus on? We’ll walk you through it and learn how to use computer science to your benefit in Ruby on Rails applications, so that you can improve Ruby on Rails software quality using recognized and most proven techniques that are out there."
You can now also download the sheets in PDF format.

City of Deventer launches new website
Friday, May 23, 2008
On Friday May 23th, the city of Deventer launched its new website. The new site offers new opportunities for visitors to interact and has a greatly improved search function. The site has been optimized so pages are easier to find through search engines like Google. The accessibility for people with visual disabilities or low literacy has been improved with a text-to-speech option.
Compared to the old site, the navigation has been improved by grouping subjects together and by offering extra contextual information in the side bars.
Interaction
New on the site are opportunities to meet other residents and the town council. Comment on articles, discuss in the forums, vote for the poll or create your own blog to tell your Deventer story. Registration is required for these functions.
Technical realization
The brand new site is the result of cooperation between Nedforce and the city of Deventer. Nedforce is expert in Ruby on Rails development. Ruby on Rails allows building light weight, flexible and contemporary sites that meet modern web standards, including government accessibility guidelines.
Work ahead
Included in the new site is an up-to-date map with road constructions. This will be extended with locations of real estate development and planned maintenance.
